In line with this, the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry's objectives are:

The Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce & Industry is governed by volunteer councillors who are elected by the members at each Annual General Meeting. It has the usual structure of President, Deputy President, Treasurer, Secretary and Committee Members. A Secretariat consisting of three staff members services the Chamber. The Chamber meets once a Month, usually the first Wednesday of the Month. The Executive Council members represent the Private Sector on several National Government Boards and Committees such as:

The Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry operates a Trade Information Services which has a Library of Trade Directories, Market Studies, Trade Magazines, books and brochures and catalogues on products, export and import procedures, trade shows, conference seminars, and training courses. The Trade Information Services (TIS) receives many inquiries from overseas traders wanting to buy PNG Exports or sell goods to PNG Importers. The Trade Information Services will be working on updating a register of all PNG exporters and importers who are Chamber members to send copies of these letters to the appropriate companies.

Each Company who wants to be a member
in National Capital District and Central Province is charged an annual
membership fee. The membership is based on the number of employees in the
Company, and is tax deductible. The fees are:

The rates given here are for 2002. Rates may go up by 10% annually

Membership is usually in the name of a Company, but there are a few personal memberships.
|
|
It depends on your appreciation of the role of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Sometimes, it is hard to place a value per member on the Chamber contribution to a Government policy or regulation affecting business, or its role in helping to sell an export order or introducing new imports.
